Daring Bakers October Challenge: Doughnuts

Well, my first DB challenge is in the bag. The October 2010 Daring Bakers challenge was hosted by Lori of Butter Me Up. Lori chose to challenge DBers to make doughnuts. She used several sources for her recipes including Alton Brown, Nancy Silverton, Kate Neumann and Epicurious.

I had fun with this challenge, since I've always wanted to make doughnuts from scratch. I coated some with powdered sugar and some in cinnamon sugar(my personal fave).

I think they turned out pretty good, my hubby thought they were a bit heavy. I remember the first time I fried dough, it was biscuit dough from a tube. Yes, I know it might be frowned upon. So this time, I wanted to get it right. Stan would be proud :)

Hope you hang in there wih me. Ready for my next challenge.

My Dads' Favorites

This blog is for my dad Stan, who was a big influence in my life. He taught me how to be self-sufficient, honest, caring and loving. He also taught me how to cook, which is one of my favorite things.

It started with one of the best Christmas presents I ever got. The year was 1970, and I got an easy bake oven. That was the start of it, or as my mom would say, the end of it. Growing up in a home where Persian food was supreme, baking took a back seat. Don't get me wrong, I love Persian food and have made my fair share of it, but baking was something my mom didn't do too much of.

So, that's where my dad Stan comes in. He was a great father, teacher, confidant, and a helluva cook!

He made me who I am in the kitchen today. His ideas, recipes, and general tips were my foundation for cooking and baking.

I hope you'll hang in here with me as I post some of my favorite recipes and the stories behind them.
